Self-motivation is a lie. Any motivation is a lie. If you need someone to motivate you or something to motivate you, then this is already the first indicator that something is wrong with you. Because if you are healthy and love what you do, then you do not need to motivate you additionally.

Everyone knows (at least those who are engaged in business) that the effect of any methods of motivating employees is short-lived: such motivation is valid for one, maximum two months. If you get a pay raise, then after one or two months this is no longer an additional incentive. Therefore, if you need some kind of motivation, especially regularly, then this is some kind of nonsense. Healthy people go about their business without special additional motivation.

And then what to do? To be treated? No. Make your decisions conscious choices. Your personal conscious choice is the best self-motivation!

O le faaosofia o le tagata lava ia o se filifiliga maaleale

In general, choice is the basis of everything that I talk about at my seminars and consultations. There are two key things that provide answers to almost all questions. And which help to deal with almost everything:

  1. Adoption. Acceptance of what is in your life here and now as it is.
  2. Choice. You make one choice or another.

The problem is that the vast majority of people do not live in the moment, do not accept what is as it is, resist it and do not make a choice. And yet most people live in concepts, in theories that they have drawn from various sources, but which have nothing to do with what we do every day.

How to stop resisting

Resistance, in my opinion, is a hot topic for everyone, because we face resistance many times a day. You are driving a car, someone cuts you off, the first reaction is, of course, resistance. You come to work, communicate with the boss or do not communicate with him, and this also causes resistance.

So how do you stop resisting?

Let’s start with the fact that all the events that occur in life are neutral in themselves. In any event there is no pre-introduced meaning. It is none. But at the time when the event occurs, each of us creates his own interpretation of this event.

The problem is that we associate this event with our interpretation. We combine it into a single whole. On the one hand, this is logical and, on the other hand, it brings great confusion to our lives. We think that the way we look at things is the way it is. In fact, this is how it is not, because in fact it is absolutely not. This phrase doesn’t make any sense. This is not a play on words, mind you. This phrase makes no sense. If the meaning is not in what I say, then let’s think what is the meaning, if not in what I say. The point is that we look at things from our own interpretation. And we have a system of interpretations, we have a set of habits. Habits of thinking in a certain way, habits of acting in a certain way. And this set of habits leads us to the same results over and over again. This applies to each of us, this applies to every day of our lives.

What am I doing. I offer my interpretations. I suffered for a long time, but maybe this is right, or maybe not right, maybe needed, or maybe not needed. And here’s what I decided for myself. The best I can do is that I can share these interpretations. And you don’t have to agree with them at all. You can just accept them. What it means to accept is to allow these interpretations to be as they are. You can play with them, you can see whether they work in your life or not. Especially pay attention to something that you will resist.

Why do we always resist something

Look, we live in the present, but we always rely on past experience. The past tells us how to survive today in the present. The past determines what we do now. We have accumulated a “rich life experience”, we believe that this is the most valuable thing that we have and we live based on this life experience.

Aisea tatou te faia ai

Because when we were born, over time, we realized that we were given brains. Why do we need brains, let’s think. We need them in order to exist, to move along the most beneficial path for us. The brain analyzes what is happening now, and it does like a machine. And he compares with what was and what he thinks is safe, he reproduces. Our brains, in fact, protect us. And I must disappoint you, but our interpretation of the current situation is the only function of the brain that is really given to it, this is what it does and, in fact, it does nothing more. We read books, watch movies, do something, why are we doing all this? In order to survive. Thus, the brain survives, it repeats what happened.

Based on this, we are moving into the future, in fact, reproducing past experience over and over again, being in a certain paradigm. And thus, we are doomed to move as if on rails, in a certain rhythm, with certain beliefs, with certain attitudes, we make our life safe. Past experience protects us, but at the same time it limits us. For example, resistance. Our brains decide it’s safer to resist, so we resist. Setting priorities, we arrange them again and again in some way for what, it’s more convenient, more comfortable, so safer. Self-motivation. Brains say you need some motivation, you need to come up with something now, this is not enough for you. Etc. We know all this from past experience.

Why are you reading this?

We all want to go beyond the usual performance beyond the usual results, because if we leave everything as it is, we will receive everything that we have already received in the past. We are doing now a little more or a little less, a little worse or a little better, but again, compared to the past. And, as a rule, we do not create something bright, extraordinary, going beyond the usual.

Everything we have — work, salary, relationships, it’s all a consequence of your habits. Everything that you do not have is also a consequence of your habits.

The question is, should habits be changed? No, of course, it is not necessary to develop a new habit. It is enough to realize these habits, to notice that we act out of habit. If we see these habits, realize them, then we own these habits, we control the situation, and if we do not notice the habits, then the habits own us. For example, the habit of resisting, resisting, if we understand what we want to prove with this and learn to prioritize, then this habit will not, at some point, own us.

Remember Professor Pavlov, who experimented on dogs. He put food, lit a light bulb, the dog salivated, a conditioned reflex developed. After a while, the food was not put on, but the light bulb was lit, and the dog still salivated. And he figured out that every person lives that way. They gave us something, they lit a light bulb, but they no longer give it, but the light bulb lights up, and we act out of habit. For example, the old boss you worked with for a while was a jerk. A new boss has come, and you habitually think that he is an idiot, treat him like an idiot, talk to him like an idiot, and so on, and the new boss is a sweetheart person.

O le a le mea e fai i ai?

I propose to look at some points that are associated with perception. Before you react, you perceive in a certain way. That is, you interpret what is happening around you. And your interpretations shape your attitude. And your attitude can already form both a reaction and a pro-action. A proaction is something new that is not based on past experience that you can choose at this particular moment. The question is how to choose. And again, I repeat, first you need to accept the situation as it is and, based on this, make a choice.

This is the picture that emerges. I hope everything here is of some help to you.
