A background (watermark) is a translucent background image that sits behind the text. It is used to indicate the status of a document (secret, draft, etc.) or to display a company logo. We’ll show you how to add watermarks to Word 2013 documents.

To insert a watermark, open a document and click on the tab mamanu (Design) on the Ribbon.

In addition, you can create custom watermarks from text or images. To do this, click on Watermark (Underlay) and select Fa'ailoga vai masani (Customizable background).

Specify how you want to position the background − Faʻatonu (diagonal) or faʻalava (Horizontally). Click OK.

The custom watermark is now included in the document.

If you want to use the picture as a watermark, click on Watermark (Watermark) tab mamanu (Design) and select again Fa'ailoga vai masani (Customizable background). In the dialog box Printed Watermark (Printed backing) click on ata (Figure), and then on Filifili le Ata (Choose).

You can select an image from a folder on your computer, from Clip Art on Office.com, search for an image on Bing, or download from OneDrive. As an example, we found the Windows logo in Bing.

Select an image from the search results and click on Faaofiina (Faaofiofi).

Manatua: Make sure you agree to the restrictions on the use of the selected graphic.

To insert a picture as a translucent image behind the text, check the box fufulu (Discolor). You can also set the scale for the picture, or let Word scale it automatically by selecting taʻavale (Auto). Click OKto place the underlay.

The image will be inserted into the document behind the text.

au Watermark (Watermark) is also available in Word 2007 and 2010, but in those versions you will find it on the Taiala Lisi (page markup), not mamanu (Design).
