Parental control for children’s cell phones

Portable under parental control, it’s possible!

Each operator who is a member of AFOM (French Association of Mobile Operators) provides its customers with a parental control tool free of charge. Very practical, it gives parents the possibility of blocking access to certain so-called sensitive Web content (dating sites, “charming” sites, etc.) and to all Internet sites which are not part of the operator’s portal, ” cats ”understood.

To activate parental controls on your child’s mobile, all you have to do is call customer service or ask for it when opening the telephone line.

What regulations for French operators?

– They do not have the right to market mobile phones specifically dedicated to young children;

– They should not promote it to young people either;

– They are required to mention the specific absorption rate on the documents accompanying the telephones (standard less than 2W / kg).

“Salty” invoice?

To avoid unpleasant surprises, do not hesitate to ask for a detailed bill for your child’s cell phone. Not that you lack confidence in it, but to be a little more aware of its use. Of course, keep him informed of this decision so that he doesn’t feel spied on. Nothing like transparency to discuss with him the services he usually uses (telephony, games, Internet, downloading…) and warn him of the dangers of certain sites. The opportunity also to raise awareness of the cost …

Finally, dangerous or not the laptop?

Studies follow and sometimes contradict each other. Some have shown a heating of the tissues after intensive use of the cell phone, as well as effects on the brain (modification of brain waves, increased breaks in DNA strands, etc.). However, nothing guarantees possible long-term consequences.

Other experiments suggest that children’s brains, compared to adults, could absorb twice the radiation induced by cell phones. However, for Afsset (French Agency for Environmental and Occupational Health Safety), this difference in absorption (and therefore sensitivity) has not been verified. The WHO (World Health Organization), for its part, specifies that “no negative effects [of the cell phone] have been established at levels of exposure to radio waves lower than international recommendations”. So, officially, no really proven harmfulness.

However, other, more in-depth research is currently underway to determine whether there is a link between cell phone use and the onset of brain cancer.

While waiting for new conclusions, it is recommended to reduce, as a precaution, the time of telephone communications to be less exposed to waves. Because, as they say, prevention is better than cure!

Funny symptoms …

Imagine your reaction if you were deprived of your cell phone for an extended period of time. A recent study looked into the question and the results are somewhat surprising: stress, anxiety, craving… Laptop, a technological drug? Know how to take some distance so as not to become “addicted”!
