Hygrocybe scarlet, (lat. Hygrocybe coccinea) is a mushroom of the Hygrophoraceae family. It is characterized by small fruiting bodies with a red cap and stalk and yellow or red plates.

Ua:

More or less bell-shaped (in old shrunken specimens, however, it may be prostrate, and even with a notch instead of a tubercle), 2-5 cm in diameter. The color is quite variable, from rich scarlet to pale orange, depending on growing conditions, weather and age. The surface is finely pimply, but the flesh is rather thin, orange-yellow, without a distinct smell and taste.

Faamaumauga:

Sparse, thick, adnate, branched, cap colors.

Spora pauta:

White. Spores ovoid or ellipsoid.

Vaʻa:

4-8 cm in height, 0,5-1 cm in thickness, fibrous, whole or made, often as if “flattened” from the sides, in the upper part of the color of the cap, in the lower part – lighter, up to yellow.

Faʻasalalau:

Hygrocybe alai is found in all kinds of meadows from late summer to late autumn, obviously preferring infertile soils, where hygrophoric ones traditionally do not meet serious competition.

Ituaiga tutusa:

There are a lot of red hygrocybes, and with full confidence they can only be distinguished through microscopic examination. However, most of the similar mushrooms are rare; of the more or less common, popular authors point to the crimson hygrocybe (Hygrocybe punicea), which is much larger and more massive than scarlet hygrocybe. This mushroom is easy to identify due to its bright red-orange color and small size.
