The Pacense de Zafra town will hold its XNUMXst Gastronomic Fair, which brings together a range of activities around food and culinary preparation.

During the next days 7 to 10 April, and in turn framed in the traditional  Faʻaliga o le Tautotogo of the Extremadura town, it will seek to promote the entire agri-food sector by promoting and sponsoring the culinary and bankruptcy sessions that will take place during those days.

The celebrations of this 1st Gastronomic Fair, are organized by the local council, and sponsored by the Badajoz Provincial Council, the Mahou Beer Brand and the Electrocash, Café Bou and Imprentas Castro companies.

The first of the spotlights will be on the  I National Cooking Competition, having a special relevance within the conference, and in it, the selected chefs must prepare a recipe based on red veal.

The 6 candidates are already prepared, which of the 326 applicants who came from all over Spain, stood out from the rest for their capacity, curriculum and above all creativity in the presentation of prior applications.

The intrepid producers, Sergio Jiménez Gallardo from Montilla de Córdoba), Cristian David Cárdenas Argüelles from Montijo de Badajoz), Sonia Vera Cerdeiras from Madrid, Milagros Trigoso Portocarrero from Mérida Sergio Peñalosa Lancharro from La Antilla-Huelva, and Iván Serrano Raboso from Toledo, they are anxiously waiting for the 9th, where they will be challenged in the preparation of a Retinto Sirloin offered by Retinto de Extremadura, to see who wins the award.

The competition activity will be completed with the children’s version of it, the Junior Cheff, where the winners of the semifinal held on March 18 at the Parador Nacional de Turismo de Zafra, selected the finalists.

The activities will be completed with the celebration also of the gastronomy contest of Centers for the Elderly of Extremadura, and to complete the perfect entertainment of both festive events, a contest of rocieros choirs will be held.

Tapas and Gastronomy in abundance

In parallel to the activities of the competitions, in different locations of the municipality, different events will be held that complement the Gastronomic Fair.

Throughout the 4 festive days, in the Institutional Pavilion 14 premises will be available to Zafra restaurants to prepare their best tapas and rations to be able to offer them to visitors and in turn, participate in the award for the best tapa, which It will be awarded to the one most valued by the attendees.

Food trucks and different caravans will flank the entire development of the different gastronomic sessions of the Fair, and together with the always showy as well as noisy, Gastromotera stay, will be other attractions of the weekend celebrations.

Along with these, a Gin-Tonic and a very Iberian presentation on the art of “cutting the Ham” conducted by Javier Aguza, celebrates for beating the 2014 Guinness Record of Iberian ham cut, after slicing several pieces for 33 hours.

The rest of the activities will be completed with live cooking workshops for diabetics and celiacs and a monograph on making sweets.
